Lucky Programme Prize Winners

Oops! Amidst all of the excitment at the end of proceedings yesterday, we omitted to announce the winners of the lucky programme competition. Each programme had a number endorsed at the top left hand corner under the "race card" tag. The holders of programmes numbered 30, 76 and 141 have been drawn as the winners. Tickets for a family of four for free entry (worth £36) to selected meetings at Knockhill racing circuit in Fife await the holders of those programmes. To claim the prizes, would the holders of the programme please send it in to the Secretary who will return it first class post along with the prize tickets? Darrin Scott wins inaugural Pitreavie Gift

TLJT runner Darrin Scott (9m) took first place in the final of the first Pitreavie Gift at just after 4.30pm yesterday. He had won Heat 4 in the morning (10.87 secs) and was one of the six fastest heat winners seeded for the cross ties. As only cross tie winners were going through to the final, he had to pull out all the stops to ensure qualification. He did so as indeed did all of the six seeded runners who all went to the final. A Welcome from the Chairman

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you, competitors, sponsors, supporters and spectators to this the inaugural Pitreavie Gift which I hope will be the first of many more such meetings to showcase the very best of handicapped running in Scotland. This is a sport which is an integral part of the history of Scotland and it is perhaps particularly relevant in this year of the Olympics and with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow only just two years away. It is perhaps also fitting that the winner of the 2012 New Year Sprint also hails from the Kingdom of Fife.

The Pitreavie Athletics Centre is an obvious venue for this event both in terms of location and quality of facility and I would like to thank the Fife Sport and Leisure Trust for all their help in putting the event together. I would also like to thank every one else who has contributed in any way to the staging of the meeting, some of whose efforts have been truly monumental. The Directors of the meeting hope that we have found a winning formula with the combination of the distances to be run and the mixture of youth and adult races. Apart from providing a competition at a time of year when such events are generally thin on the ground, we hope that the new approach to the event which we call “Where the athlete always comes first” will provide a much needed breath of fresh air to handicapped running on the open athletics circuit.

I wish to congratulate every one who came along on the 29th and for contributing to the success of the day. Particular thanks must go to all of the people, many unseen, who put in hours of work both before and during the event to make it all run so smoothly.

Now that the first Gift is safely under our belts we can look forward to the 2013 renewal. I have been hugely impressed by the amount of very positive feedback we have received from competitors, spectators and supporters and it seems to me to be beyond any doubt that all of you enjoyed what we had to offer.
